The Cuyahoga County Sexual Assault Task Force is a team of prosecutors, police officers and others building cases based upon testing of old rape kits, the testing began as a result Attorney General Mike DeWine’s initiative in 2011. As reported by the Associated Press today, about 3800 of 4800 old rape kits have now been tested in Cuyahoga County, and over 1000 suspects are expected to be indicted. Approximately 30 percent of the county’s rapists are serial rapists. Unfortunately, under Ohio’s “tort reform” legislation, Ohio law limits the civil rights of many rape victims while protecting the rights of many rapists, as well as those who aid and abet them. The Fitch Law Firm is currently challenging the law in the Ohio Supreme Court.
